Belize is home to the second-largest barrier reef in the world, a UNESCO World Heritage site that supports our livelihoods and provides a home for the Snapper, Barracuda, and Yellowfin Tuna we target on our charters. But reefs are vulnerable to climate change and hurricanes. Innovative projects in the Caribbean now use Reinsurance to provide "Parametric Insurance" for coral reefs. This means that if a major storm hits our coast, a payout is triggered immediately to fund rapid response teams—divers who go down to reattach broken coral and clear debris before the damage becomes permanent.
